What We Do
The European Heart Foundation is dedicated to promoting cardiovascular health and preventing heart disease across Europe. Our mission is to reduce the burden of heart-related illnesses through education, research, and advocacy.
We collaborate with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and communities to implement effective strategies that improve heart health and enhance the quality of life for individuals of all ages.

Will You Help ?

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
CPR involves;
1. Recognising that someone is having a cardiac arrest.
2. Contacting the emergency services on 112 or 999.
3. Pushing hard and fast on the chest.
Every year in Ireland thousands die from cardiac arrests – 70 per cent of these happened in the home.
CPR is a vital step in the chain of survival after a cardiac arrest. If you have been taught CPR , you are 10 times more likely to respond appropriately in an emergency.

Quit Smoking!
Ok, so what can I do?
Start by preparing to quit smoking.
-
Write down your reasons for quitting – Think about the good and not so good things about quitting smoking. Compare the list and keep them close at hand to remind you why you want to stop.
-
Make a date to quit – Pick your date and stick to it. Think about what methods and supports are available to help you quit and have them ready before your quit date.
You will need willpower to quit smoking but it will feel good to no longer be controlled (or bullied) by cigarettes.
Remind yourself that you can do it. Everyone can. You just need to know how.

A healthy diet can stop you gaining weight, reduce high blood pressure and help lower your cholesterol levels
Try to eat:
-
Plenty of fruit and vegetables. More is better.
-
Plenty of wholegrains such as wholegrain or wholemeal cereals, breads, potatoes, pasta and rice. Enjoy at each meal.
-
Moderate amounts of reduced fat or low-fat milk and dairy products.
-
Some meat, poultry, fish, eggs, beans and nuts. Choose lean meat, poultry (without skin) and fish. Eat oily fish up to twice a week. Choose eggs, beans and nuts. Limit processed salty meats such as sausages, bacon and ham.
-
Very small amounts of unsaturated reduced fat spreads and oils.
-
As little as possible of foods and drinks high in fat, sugar and salt (not every day). They are not needed for good health.
